Man Jailed 21 Years Over Burglary

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a man simply identified as Jimoh to 21 years imprisonment for burglary and theft.

He was said to have broken into a shop and carted away food items worth N234,000 in Ado Ekiti.

According to the charge sheet, Jimoh on May 11, 2020, broke into a building around Mobil petrol station, Waterworks, in the Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti, entered into a shop belonging to one Oluwayemisi Adeleye, carting away goods and foodstuff worth over N234,000.

In her statement to the police, the complainant said, “My shop was burgled twice, in May 2020 and June 2021, during which my foodstuff and soup ingredients, including rice, Semovita, west and tomato paste, among others which I was selling, were stolen.”

A policeman, Oladele Ayodeji, in his testimony before the court, disclosed that the defendant was arrested on November 19, 2021.

“He confessed to having participated in criminal activities like kidnapping, burglary, and stealing, including breaking into the complainant’s shop, during interrogation,” he stated.
