An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced one Ismaila Mohammed Ojo to death by hanging for murder.

Ojo was said to have strangled one Kareem Adu to death over an ownership dispute of a motorcycle at Odo-Uro in Irepodun-Ifelodun local government area of the state.

The court headed by Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi held that the defendant was found guilty of one-count charge of murder contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code Law Cap C16 Law of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecution witness (PW1), Inspector Arowosola Tunde, said one Mrs. Agnes Adu rushed to the station with the complaint that her husband had been killed at Odo-Uro by one Ismaila Mohammed Ojo over an ownership disputation and physical tussle in respect of an Haojue motorcycle in which the defendant was alleged to have strangled the deceased to death.

The PW2, Inspector Lasisi Bashiru, of the state CID, Ado Ekiti, Homicide Section said “the defendant confessed to the crime, that on 13/5/2018, when he was taking his bath inside a bathroom, Kareem Adu, the deceased, came to carry a motorcycle which he parked in front of his house.”

Bashiru said  the defendant added that after  his bath, he went to the house of the deceased and met him where he was sleeping.

“The defendant then jacked the deceased with his clothes on his neck and the deceased fell unconscious”.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Ogunyemi, said, “Having carefully considered and weighed the evidence adduced before the court by the Prosecution Witnesses and that of the defendant himself,, it is my finding that the defendant caused the death of the deceased by holding and pressing his neck and throat.”
