A manufacturing firm, Amaecom Group has urged the federal government to enact legislation aimed at ensuring the efficiency of ports in the country.

Chairman of Amaecom Group, Dr. Amaechi Marcel Ofomata, made this appeal during the official commissioning of the company’s group headquarters in NAF Valley Estate, on Monday in Abuja, also called for total overhaul and digitalisation of the nation’s port.

Lamenting multiple tax systems in the nation, Ofomata also lamented the lack of harmonisation of the nation’s tax system.

He emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment for exporters and importers in the ports.

Ofomata pointed out that the ports play a crucial role in the economy of every country, as they determine what goods are allowed into the country.

He, therefore, said having appropriate policies and regulations for the ports is vital to the nation’s economic survival.

The chairman also expressed concern about the rising costs associated with clearing goods at the ports.

He highlighted that the charges at the ports have increased drastically, with clearing costs for a container now reaching about N5 million, up from N1-2 million a few years ago.

Regarding the Amaecom Group, Ofomata explained its growth from a single brand in Akwa Ibom State to a conglomerate with its group head office located in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The group now has business locations strategically spread across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, as well as international presence in China and Ghana.

“The Amaecom Group is involved in various sectors, including asset financing, manufacturing, installation, and providing alternative power solutions.

“Amaecom branded products, including generating sets, freezers, water dispensers, gas cookers, tricycles, solar-powered lights, among others, are produced by the company in both China and Nigeria, ensuring quality control and customer satisfaction,” he said.

On his part, the chairman Advisory Board of Amaecom Global Ltd, Chief Sir Benito Ozigbo, expressed confidence that the company would not be intimidated by the influx of Chinese products into Nigeria because of the quality it maintains.

In summary, the Chairman of Amaecom Group urged the government to enact laws to improve the efficiency of ports in Nigeria.

He also advocates for a conducive environment for exporters and importers.

He added that the company itself has shown significant growth, expanding its operations and maintaining a reputation for producing quality products.
