The newly – elected leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Benue State has stated that many loyalists of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, were misled and are now in talks to return and join Governor Hyacinth Alia, ahead of 2027 general elections.
The APC State Organising Secretary, James Ornguga, told LEADERSHIP on telephone that majority of Akume’s loyalists realised their political mistakes and corrected it while others were planning to join the state party’s authentic leadership headed by Benjamin Omale.
Ornguga said all the governors across the country were state leaders of their political parties and Governor Alia cannot be an exception.
According to him, some of the politicians who returned to Benue State APC under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia, were former ambassador to Namibia, member House of representatives representing Vandeikya/Konshisha, Sesoo Gboko Ikpagher, among others.
He said, “Many of them have returned while others are meeting with us privately, and I wouldn’t want to mention their names for now, until we have a very formal commitment.”
Ornguga explained, “There is one APC in Benue State with one leadership. All over the states of the federation the governor is the leader of the party in his state. The governors are leaders of the party in their own states so in Benue state we are not talking of a faction we are talking about a united APC with Governor Hyacinth Alia as the leader of the party.
“So, it is just for them to recognise this fact and we work together. They are not in a different political party, they are in APC with us but the problem is loyalty to the leadership. They seem to direct their loyalty to somewhere else. They must realise this and acknowledge that governor Hyacinth Alia is the leader of APC in Benue State.
“We are fine working together so i don’t need to call on them to come back they are already in the one APC in the state led by Governor Alia just that somehow they are misled so that is what we are talking about, they should do what is right,” Ornguga added.
