Protest Rocks Abuja

The ever-busy Nyanya Market, several banks, eateries, fuel stations, and other business enterprises on the Nyanya axis have been placed under lock and key to prevent a possible attack and vandalisation of their property.

Our correspondent, who monitored the protest at the Nasarawa/ Abuja Boundary area around the building material axis (checkpoint), observed that, unlike the Kugbo and Karu bridge roads and streets, which are deserted, with only armed security personnel positioned at strategic points, the boundary area was crowded with angry-looking protesters.

The protesters were tear gassed and manhandled while many scampered for their safety.

The protesters sought access to the nation’s capital to join their counterparts and express their grievances about the country’s state.

Our correspondent reports that the situation, which can best be described as overwhelming for the security agencies, recorded severe attacks as angry miscreants were seen pulling down signposts and vandalising some shops.

Despite this, the government, through its agencies, appears more determined to crush the protesters who are protesting against insecurity, bad governance, and worsening standard of living across the country than clamping down on the criminals.
