Last month, Marvelous Michael announced the publication of her novel His Dark Reflection in the UK.

Those familiar with the writer and filmmaker, the plot to His Dark Reflection might seem familiar, that is because it is the same book as Birthmarked published in 2017, but re-edited and republished as a new edition under her own imprint Anson Press.

And yes, since we last heard of her, Michael got a scholarship to study a Masters Degree at Reading University, UK, graduated and working in a UK tech company. She also got married in 2021, hence her additional last name Anson, Marvelous Michael Anson.

Anson said the last few years has been committed to establishing her place in the tech industry, whilst simultaneously setting up her independent publishing company Anson Press, and writing.

The republication of Birthmarked is a result of her dissatisfaction with her contract with her former publishers and a means of introducing her work to international readers.
“I published Birthmarked with a hybrid publisher who took care of most of the publishing aspects while I dealt with sales and marketing. Last year, I realized the relationship wasn’t working for me, so, I cancelled the contract and took the book to an editor, who worked on it over the year and republished it this year as a new edition.”

Michael, however, continues to explore human complexities – one of the central themes of her works – in the ‘young adult fantasy’ genre, of which she is set to submit her latest novel, to publishers soon.

“I’m working on a young adult fantasy novel I started drafting in 2018. I completed this novel last year, and I’m now editing it with plans to send it to the agents and publishers this year. This story is influenced by Yoruba myth and culture about a girl on a journey to find home. However, I’ll still be writing thrillers in the future. Maybe even romance,” said Michael Anson.
