Maryam Abacha American University of Niger has matriculated no fewer than 430 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking their formal admission into various undergraduate programmes.
The institution, established in 2013 as a bilingual university in Sub-Saharan Africa, said it continues to contribute to the training of students in both the sciences and humanities, alongside promoting research and innovation across the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of the Maradi campus, Shu’aibu Usman-Tanko, urged the newly admitted students to remain focused and adhere strictly to the institution’s rules and regulations.
“Matriculation signifies the formal admission of candidates who are academically qualified and prepared to cope with the demands of university education,” he said.
He cautioned the students against misconduct, stressing that the university maintains zero tolerance for indiscipline and actions capable of tarnishing its reputation.
Some of the matriculating students, who spoke in separate interviews, described the university as a centre of academic excellence, noting that it offers opportunities for global exposure, particularly in health sciences and related fields.
The university disclosed that construction is ongoing at its permanent site in Maradi, with about N10 billion committed to the project.
MAAUN is part of a network of institutions, including its Kano campus, the Franco-British International University, and the Canadian University of Nigeria.
