The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday conducted its House of Representatives primary elections across the 234 wards of the state, recording a massive turnout of party members in what was largely described as a peaceful exercise.

The primaries, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at ward and collation centres, produced candidates for the various federal constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Most of the aspirants who had earlier emerged through consensus arrangements were affirmed by party members during the exercise.

Among those who secured the party’s tickets were incumbent lawmakers representing Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, and Obafemi Owode/Abeokuta North/Odeda Federal Constituency, Hon. Olumide Osoba.

Isiaka clinched the APC ticket to seek a second term in the House of Representatives, while Osoba, son of former Ogun State governor and APC chieftain, Chief Olusegun Osoba, secured the party’s ticket for a fourth term unopposed.

However, the contest in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency was more competitive as the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Afolabi Afuwape, faced four challengers, including Sodirudeen Ayodeji, Abdul-Akeem Ademolake, Hon. Lanre Edun, and Tolulope Fijayo Ayinla Philips.

Afuwape eventually emerged victorious after polling 12,633 valid votes across the 15 wards in the constituency to defeat his closest rival, Tolulope Philips, who secured 760 votes.

In Ogun East Senatorial District, some aspirants rejected the consensus arrangement, forcing the party to adopt the Option A4 voting system to determine its candidates.

As of the time of filing this report, the party leadership had yet to address journalists on the outcome of the exercise despite earlier indications that a press briefing would be held.
