Kebbi State government has confirmed the receipt of 3,000 doses of vaccines from the federal government for distribution across the three LGAs with a high burden of reported cases of Cerebrospinal Meningitis.
The state commissioner for health, Comrade Ismail Yunusa Yauri, disclosed this during a press briefing yesterday at Government House Press Centre in Birnin Kebbi.
The commissioner, who was represented by the permanent secretary, Dr Abubakar Nuhu Koko, said the three local government areas with the highest case burdens are Aleiro, Jega, and Gwandu.
According to him, 1,550 people, including the University Community, 798 in Gwandu, and 450 in Jega, have been vaccinated in Aleiro LGA.
The commissioner, however, appealed to the general public to report any person who has any sign of the CSM disease to the nearest health facility, avoid sleeping in overcrowded spaces with poor ventilation, maintain proper personal hygiene and environmental sanitation, not visit affected patients at isolation centres, and avoid self-medication, among other things.
The commissioner also announced that 653 suspected cases have been recorded in the state to date.
