Popular Nollywood actress,  Mercy Johnson,  has called out a Ghanaian television station, Blazing TV, for allegedly broadcasting her movie “The Firstborn” without her consent.

Taking to Instagram, Johnson shared a screenshot of a fan’s message alerting her to the unauthorised airing. Expressing shock and frustration, the actress questioned how such a broadcast could happen without proper licensing.

“Ghana, Blazing TV… How is this even ok?” she wrote. Blazing TV in Ghana is airing my movie, ‘The Firstborn,’ without my consent. How does this even make sense? I am speechless at the audacity of it all.”

LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that Mercy Johnson, now joins a growing list of Nollywood stars speaking out against alleged copyright violations by Ghanaian broadcasters.

Recall that earlier this year, Actress Bimbo Ademoye, called out several Ghanaian TV stations for unauthorised airings of her films, tagging top officials including Ghana’s Minister of Communications and the CEO of the National Film Authority to take action.

In a similar case, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli , criticised Ghanaian broadcasters in April for consistently airing Nigerian content without permission. She described the trend as “shameful” and warned she might escalate the issue to the highest levels of government.

Our correspondent writes that as  copyright concerns grow across West Africa, many Nigerian creatives are demanding greater enforcement and respect for intellectual property laws across borders.
