Hundreds of students at the Ibogun Engineering Campus of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye on Saturday, sustained varying degrees of injuries while running for safety following the a midnight invasion of their hostels by gunmen suspected to me robbers.
The horrifying incident, which began around the Friday midnight, lingered into the early morning of Saturday when a group of over 12 gunmen engaged the community in an unchecked sporadic shooting.
The gunmen allegedly stormed several hostels in Ibogun School of Engineering campus of the university located in the neighbourhood of Ifo township of Ifo Local Government Area, dispossessing students of phones, laptops and other valuables.
The late-night invasion, which thrown students and residents of Ibogun into panic mood, also resulted in pandemonium as scores of students fleeing their rooms during the night’s sporadic shooting were wounded.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the attackers operated for about an hour without any immediate resistance, leaving several students injured and many others traumatised.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of Nigeria Police Force (PPRO), Oluseyi Babaseyi said the command has commenced investigation into the midnight attack.
The PPRO added that the Ibogun Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Area Commander have been deployed to the scene to assess the situation and reassure students as well as other residents of their safety.
