Former Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel, has issued a stark warning to the Super Eagles ahead of their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-final clash against Algeria this Saturday.

Speaking on his popular ‘The Obi One’ podcast, the 2013 AFCON winner emphasised the formidable nature of the Algerian squad. “We absolutely must ensure we approach this game in the right manner because it’s going to be an incredibly difficult encounter against Algeria,” Mikel stated. “Algeria are a very strong team; they operate cohesively. I’ve observed them on several occasions.”

He further elaborated on their playing style: “Algeria are exceptionally aggressive, and they possess quality players throughout their squad, so the Super Eagles genuinely need to be on their ‘A-game’ to compete effectively.”
