Miley Cyrus is returning to her Disney roots, as the award-winning star is set to participate in the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special,” which will stream on Disney+.
Reflecting on the impact of the iconic series, Cyrus said “Hannah Montana will always be part of who I am. What started as a television show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of many fans, and I will always be grateful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people years later makes me proud. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking fans who have supported me for two decades.”
The anniversary special is scheduled to premiere on March 24 and will be recorded before a live studio audience. It will feature an interview with Cyrus hosted by Alex Cooper. The programme will revisit memorable scenes from the series, showcase never-before-seen footage, and recreate some of the show’s famous sets. Disney also hinted that familiar musical moments from the series will return during the special.
According to Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, the series played a major role in inspiring young viewers globally. She described the anniversary project as a celebration of the programme’s legacy and a tribute to fans who have remained loyal since its debut nearly 20 years ago.
The series originally premiered in 2006 on Disney Channel and quickly propelled Cyrus to global fame. The show ran for four seasons and received four Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Children’s Programme category.
Beyond television, the franchise expanded into merchandise, video games, and films, including Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and Hannah Montana: The Movie. The show’s soundtrack also achieved significant commercial success, producing 14 platinum and 18 gold albums.
