The minister of interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service to be disciplined, patriotic and diligent in  discharging their duties despite the security challenges in the country.

He made the call yesterday during the passing out parade of the 30th Assistant Superintendents of Corrections (ASC) basic course at the Correctional Service Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna.

The minister who was represented by the immediate past controller general of corrections, Alhaji Ahmed Ja’afaru, noted that the basic course had prepared the officers to discharge their responsibilities in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.

He said their commitment would be required as the country had put in concerted efforts through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to address the challenges of insecurity bedeviling the country.

The minister assured that the ministry in conjunction with the Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board would put in place measures for smooth administration of the service through promoting the welfare of correctional service officers and that of inmates across the nation’s custodial centers.
