The federal government’s quest to bridge Nigeria’s housing deficit has received a major boost as the minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttagha Rabe Darma, hailed the Kano Renewed Hope City Housing Project as a shining example of how strategic partnerships can accelerate affordable housing delivery and stimulate local economic growth.

During an inspection of the expansive housing project in Kano State, the minister described the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework underpinning the initiative as a sustainable and result-driven approach capable of transforming the nation’s housing sector.

Darma said the visit formed part of an ongoing nationwide assessment of federal government housing projects aimed at ensuring timely completion, maintaining quality standards and addressing challenges that could hinder project delivery.

According to him, the inspections are designed to provide the ministry with firsthand information on the progress of thousands of housing units currently being developed across the country under various government-backed initiatives.

He recalled that at the PPP Housing Summit 2.0 in Abuja, the ministry pledged to closely monitor ongoing projects and engage stakeholders directly to ensure that the benefits of the federal government’s housing programmes reach Nigerians without unnecessary delays.

“The objective is simple: to ensure these projects are delivered on schedule and in line with approved standards. We want Nigerians to begin enjoying the benefits of these housing initiatives as quickly as possible,” he said.

The minister noted that beyond expanding access to decent homes, the Kano Renewed Hope City project is already generating substantial economic activity through the engagement of local artisans, contractors, suppliers, transport operators and other service providers.

He stressed that housing developments of this scale have a multiplier effect on the economy, creating jobs, supporting small businesses and attracting investment to host communities.

“This project is not only about providing houses. It is creating employment opportunities, boosting local commerce and contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the area,” Darma stated.

The Kano development, which consists of 1,500 housing units of varying designs, is expected to accommodate more than 6,000 residents upon completion. The minister said the project would provide affordable and quality housing while fostering the growth of a modern, secure and sustainable community.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace of construction, Darma commended the commitment of developers and project partners, urging them to sustain the momentum to meet delivery timelines.
