A group of Political Ambassadors representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider appointing one of their most accomplished intellectuals and politicians to represent the South East in his administration.

This call comes after a consultative meeting held in Abuja yesterday, during which the group expressed their unwavering confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership style since assuming office on 29 May, 2023.

In a statement jointly signed by Hon. Chika Raymond (Akwa Akwulu Nibo) and Barr. Emeka Nkeiruka, the group expressed their appreciation for Amb. Ugokwe, who was recently appointed as a Professor of Legislative Studies and Governance by the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.

They acknowledged Prof. Ugokwe’s exceptional contributions to the South East APC, where he tirelessly mobilised support for the party despite the region historically not being an APC stronghold.

The group said Ugokwe’s dedication to promoting President Tinubu’s candidacy for the 2023 elections, along with his conviction in the President’s intentions for Nigeria, has yielded positive outcomes.

They, however, highlighted the significant impact Prof. Ugokwe had in Idemili North and South, his constituency, which saw some of the highest numbers of votes for the APC in the South East.

Despite competing with the Labour Party and former governor Peter Obi, it said Ugokwe successfully rallied voters in favour of President Tinubu.

“In fact, out of the over 5,000 votes secured by the APC in Anambra State, Prof. Ugokwe’s Idemili delivered over 1,200 votes, narrowing the gap significantly.

“This number could have been higher if not for the former governor’s aspirations and the strong presence of his loyal following in the South East.

“Based on Prof. Ugokwe’s unwavering commitment, we wholeheartedly recommend him to represent the South East in President Tinubu’s Cabinet,” the statement said.

They said his extensive experience in academia and Nigerian politics, including two terms as a member of the House of Representatives and his ambassadorship to Austria, among other achievements stands him out.

“Throughout his career, Prof. Ugokwe has displayed utmost integrity, leaving no trace of corruption,” the group said adding that he also holds the distinction of sponsoring a record number of private Member Bills in the House of Representatives, a feat yet to be surpassed.

It said as an Ambassador, he further bolstered diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the countries he was assigned to, earning the appreciation of Nigerians residing in those nations for his invaluable contributions to their peaceful coexistence.

The group also commended President Tinubu’s leadership, acknowledging the positive changes unfolding in the political landscape.

They urged him to remain focused on fulfilling his campaign promises and assure him that he is currently on the right path toward a better Nigeria.
