The Nigeria Ministers’ Wives Forum (NMWF) has officially handed over a newly renovated theatre, doctors’ call rooms and toilets at Zuba General Hospital.

The forum also distributed food items to more than 300 women in the spirit of Lent and Ramadan, and donated hospital equipment, bedsheets and blankets to support the facility.

The vice chairperson of the forum, Mrs Azizat Alausa, said during the handover on Tuesday that the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.

Alausa explained that the renovation project was an initiative of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, aimed at improving medical facilities and supporting healthcare professionals in their service to the public.

“The month of Ramadan and Lent is a month of compassion and good deeds.

“So, we, the Nigerian Ministers’ Wives Forum, decided to refurbish parts of Zuba Hospital to enhance healthcare service delivery in the hospital,” she said.

She expressed optimism that the gesture would be extended to other healthcare facilities in need, in the nation’s capital.

On her part, the wife of the minister of agriculture and food security, Mrs Bilikisu Kyari, said the renovation would enhance the operational efficiency of the hospital.

Kyari added that the gesture would also provide better working conditions for medical personnel and improve the quality of care to patients in the Zuba community and surrounding areas.

Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Renewing Hope, One Day at a Time,” the Mandate Secretary, FCT Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, thanked the forum for the support.

Fasawe said that the gesture reflects the Forum’s commitment to supporting social welfare initiatives, particularly in the health sector.

She appealed to other associations and well-meaning Nigerians to give their support to the health sector, towards improving the well-being of residents.

The medical director of Zuba General Hospital, Dr Isah Bulama, who described the support as “life-transforming,” lauded the ministers’ wives for their humanitarian services.

In his remarks, the Emir of Zuba, Alhaji Bello Mohammed, thanked the group for giving Zuba Hospital a facelift and appealed for the expansion of the facilities.

Represented by a title holder in his council, Mohammed Salihu, the Emir also advocated the recruitment of more health workers to cater for the increasing population in the area.

The Women Leader of Zuba Ward, Mrs Josephine Joel and other beneficiaries of the Lent and Ramadan items thanked the Forum for the gesture and prayed for God’s blessings to the group and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
