The Police Service Commission (PSC), has dismissed four senior police officers and sanctioned 31 others over various acts of misconduct as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and accountability in the Nigeria Police Force.

The decisions were taken at the Commission’s plenary meeting held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by the PSC’s head of protocol and public relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts unbecoming of public officers.

The Commission also approved a range of disciplinary measures affecting other senior officers.

Ten officers were reduced in rank, including three Superintendents of Police who were demoted to Deputy Superintendents of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police reduced to Assistant Superintendents of Police, and five Assistant Superintendents of Police demoted to the rank of Inspector.

Seven officers were exonerated and cleared of wrongdoing.

Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining discipline within the police force, stressing that misconduct would not be tolerated.

He said, “The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers.
The Commission would continue to enforce discipline while rewarding officers who demonstrate diligence and professionalism.”
