Greater Aba Development Authority has said owners of over 68 mission schools in Abia South violated the terms of agreement for returning the schools to them by previous administrations.
The director-general of the authority, Uche Ukeje, stated this in Aba while speaking with newsmen after issuing a notice to the management of Wilcox Memorial Schools, Ogbor Hill, Aba.
Ukeje had directed the management to hand over the schools to the new principals appointed by the state’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education within one week.
He said the government had resolved to recover all such schools the missions handed over to private individuals in contravention of the agreement and any of its property.
Ukeje, who is also a member of the state’s school recovery committee explained that the resolution is in line with the present administration’s ongoing reformation agenda.
He maintained that, “The administration is not by any means witch-hunting any individuals or group of persons, but making sure that there is orderliness and sanity in the system.”
He, therefore, pointed out that all illegally acquired property including schools, hospitals, and encroached government lands would be duly recovered without exception.
