Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 2 at Koulfoua Island in the Region of Lake Chad have repelled a vicious attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists leading to the killing of a terrorist commander, Amir Dumkei.
A statement by MNJTF’s Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba disclosed that the troops also killed five other terrorists in the operation.
He said the encounter occurred near the bank of Koulfoua where the troops dealt a significant blow to the terror groups.
Lt.-Col. Osoba further revealed that the troops recovered nine AK -47 rifles, three boats and a large cache of ammunition from the criminals.
He explained that the ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists initiated the offensive in the early hours of Tuesday, 15 July 2025, attacking the MNJTF military base in Koulfoua Island.
However, they were met with superior firepower from the MNJTF troops.
Osoba stressed that the terrorist commander was neutralised along with five others following intense artillery and coordinated fire power bombardments, while the remaining terrorists fled with gunshot injuries.
The MNJTF’s Chief Military Public Information Officer added that the troops also captured a substantial cache of arms during the operation.
He added that the troops were in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, assuring that clearance operations were ongoing to ensure the security of the area.
The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the troops for their unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the people in the Lake Chad region.
