The Founder of EbonyLife Group, Mo Abudu, has raised an alarm over the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals to impersonate high-profile individuals in financial scams.

In a formal disclaimer issued on Thursday, the media mogul distanced herself from a viral video circulating on social media which uses deepfake technology to replicate her voice and appearance. The fraudulent clip, traced to a Facebook entity identified as “Naija Capital Growth,” falsely depicts Abudu promoting an investment scheme promising Nigerians daily returns of ₦700,000.

Abudu clarified that the scammers manipulated original footage from her March 2023 interview at the Forbes 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi to mislead the public. She emphasised that the original conversation was strictly centred on African storytelling and media representation and had no connection to financial or capital growth projects.

“I have not asked anyone for money, and I would never ask for money in this way or manner. This video is completely fake and misleading,” she stated.

She urged the public to be vigilant against the evolving tactics of digital criminals who exploit the reputations of established leaders to orchestrate fraudulent activities.
