An unidentified accident survivor with three AK-47 guns was lynched to death by a mob in Gawu Babangida Gurara local government area of Niger state.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that an accident involving two people on a motorcycle occurred at the Boyi Sariki Toll gate yesterday, prompting the mob action.

The motorcycle crashed into a road construction/diversion barrier.

An eyewitness account revealed that one of the two victims died on the spot, but in the process of rescuing the other victim, three AK-47 guns were found in the sack they were carrying, prompting the mob action

Confirming this the Niger state Police Command Police  Public Relations Officer PPRO Wasiu Abiodun said  “ a report received from Gawu-Babangida Division indicated that, while the Police patrol team of the Division was conducting a stop and search along Boyi-Sarki/Toll gate area, a distress call was received that two unidentified persons on a motorcycle coming from Tafa area of Kaduna State, heading towards Abuja axis were involved in a lone accident around Toll gate, having ran into road construction/diversion barrier”.

He stated further that “The patrol team moved to the scene, while some other persons also rushed to the accident scene to assist. On getting to the location, a sack was recovered from the accident victims, and when searched, three AK-47 rifles with six magazines and 104 ammunition were found in the bag belonging to the accident victims”

“Unfortunately, one of the accident victims died on the spot, and during an effort to rescue the second person from the scene to the hospital, he was lynched by the mob to death. The corpses were moved to the general hospital morgue in Suleja,” he added.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, condemned such acts of jungle justice, stating that the suspect would have helped the Police ascertain the source of the rifle and unravel the aim, rather than resorting to a self-help approach.

He said the Area Commander, Suleja, has been directed to commence a thorough investigation and to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators, while the rifles are undergoing ballistic analysis for further investigation.
