A man identified as Chima who was suspected to be a cultist was yesterday lynched after he stabbed a mechanic to death at Umuonyeashi Nsokpo Ogbaku in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State.
Chima, also known as Jasper, was a native of Amakohia Ubi in Owerri West local government area but resided in his maternal home at Ogbaku.
A resident said he stabbed Chigozie Anunwee on the lower abdomen during a quarrel, leading to his death.
The source said, “On hearing news of the stabbing, youths of the community went after him and mobbed him to death.”
Justice Chukwunatu Nwafor, the secretary of Ogbaku Youth Association who reacted to the incident, described it as most unfortunate.
He said, “It was terrible, but the matter has been reported at the Ogbaku police division and calm has been restored in the area.”
When contacted, police spokesman, Henry Okoye, said the command was yet to be briefed on the incident.
