President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to immediately mobilise the contractor handling the stalled Ibi Bridge project and ensure a swift return to the site.

Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, disclosed this on Monday during the commissioning of the newly completed 5-km Ibi-Nwonyo road in Ibi Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Kefas said the President issued the directive following concerns raised during his recent visit to Abuja, shortly after the annual traditional Nwonyo Fishing Festival, noting that the intervention would ease the hardship faced by residents.

“The President responded promptly by directing the Ministry of Works and the contractor to resume work without delay,” the governor said.

He described the newly commissioned road as critical to boosting economic activities and improving connectivity in the area, particularly for farmers, fishermen and traders in the riverine community.

The governor then reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and security across the state and urged residents to remain peaceful and vigilant, reporting suspicious movements in their neighbourhoods.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development, Samuel Lauya, said poor access to the Nwonyo Fishing Festival had been a longstanding challenge, adding that the new road would ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility.

Lauya disclosed that the project, awarded in March 2026, was executed for N3.23 billion.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ibi Local Government Area, Emmanuel Ubandoma, described the road as a major boost to socio-economic activities in the area. At the same time, the Managing Director of the construction firm, Samuel Oyafemi, assured that the project was delivered in line with required standards and specifications.
