Monaco Move To Terminate Pogba Contract After Just One Season

AS Monaco have proposed terminating Paul Pogba’s contract, with negotiations underway to bring the midfielder’s spell at the Ligue 1 club to an early end.

Pogba joined Monaco last summer on a two-year deal after serving an 18-month doping ban, but his first season was disrupted by injuries, restricting him to limited appearances.

The 2018 World Cup winner had hoped to play a more prominent role this season, but those prospects have faded following the arrival of new manager Filipe Luis, who has begun reshaping Monaco’s midfield options.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Monaco are seeking to reach an agreement with Pogba over a mutual termination before 1 September, which would allow the Frenchman to find a new club during the current transfer window.

The decision now rests with Pogba, who is currently injured. Monaco have reportedly informed his representatives of their intention to end the contract.

Pogba’s doping ban was initially set at four years after he tested positive for DHEA, a banned substance, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the suspension to 18 months. He was subsequently cleared to return to competitive football in March 2025.

The midfielder has consistently maintained that the positive test was accidental, insisting the banned substance came from a contaminated supplement he had unknowingly taken.

If an agreement is reached, the 33-year-old’s brief Monaco career will end after just one season, leaving Pogba facing another uncertain chapter as he attempts to revive his career following a turbulent comeback.
