The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially acknowledged the ruling from the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) concerning a contentious issue related to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

However, the federation neither fully accepts nor rejects the verdict, opting for a cautious stance.

In a statement released late Tuesday’s night, the FRMF clarified that its appeal was not aimed at disputing the sporting merit or performance of any team participating in the tournament. Instead, it focused on ensuring the proper application and enforcement of competition regulations.

“The Federation reiterates that its approach has always been grounded in respect for the rules, the clarity of the competitive framework, and the stability of African competitions,” the statement read. This underscores Morocco’s commitment to maintaining integrity and fairness within the sport.

Additionally, the FRMF took the opportunity to commend all nations participating in this year’s AFCON, highlighting the tournament as a pivotal event for African football, both from a competitive and organisational perspective. The federation acknowledged the hard work and dedication of all teams involved, recognising the tournament’s importance in fostering talent and unity across the continent.

While the FRMF refrained from outlining its next steps in detail, it confirmed that a more comprehensive official statement will be forthcoming after a scheduled meeting of its governing bodies on Wednesday. This communication is anticipated to clarify Morocco’s stance on the ruling and detail any potential legal or administrative actions that may follow.

The CAF Appeals Committee’s decision comes at a time of heightened scrutiny regarding governance and regulatory consistency in African football. Recent disputes over match rulings and procedural interpretations have ignited debates among federations, analysts, and supporters alike. There are increasing calls for clearer guidelines and more transparent decision-making processes to ensure fairness across the board.

As one of Africa’s foremost footballing nations and a pivotal stakeholder in continental competitions, Morocco’s response carries significant weight in influencing ongoing discussions about reform and accountability within CAF’s organisational structures. The federation’s cautious yet respectful approach highlights its commitment to the principles of fair play, while also signalling its readiness to engage in dialogue about the future of African football governance.

As developments unfold, all eyes will be on the FRMF and its forthcoming statement, which could set the tone for future interactions between national federations and CAF, ensuring that the integrity of the sport is upheld.
