The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), has called on Bayelsa State governor, Senator Duoye Diri, to intervene in the ongoing dispute over the election of the Ijaw National Conference (INC).

It stated that what is currently presented as an election is, in substance, a carefully orchestrated exercise capable of undermining the very foundation upon which the INC was established.

MOSIEND, in a statement signed by it’s President, Dr. Kennedy West and made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, said following the ugly development, the integrity of the institution is at stake.

The Ijaw group stated that the purported disqualification of respected and widely accepted frontline candidates, particularly Elder T. K. Ogoriba, exposes a predetermined attempt to impose weak leadership on the Ijaw nation.

West insisted that if the election proceeds under present circumstances, the outcome will be widely rejected and remembered as one of the most controversial episodes in the history of the INC.

He stated that the outcome could lead to a total loss of credibility for the INC, protracted litigations and the emergence of parallel leadership structures as well as deepened distrust among the Ijaw people and institutional fragmentation and long-term internal instability.

MOSIEND president said to avert a historic crisis within the Ijaw nation, there was urgent need to dissolve the electoral committee, as the present committee has lost the confidence of a significant segment of stakeholders and has demonstrated insufficient sensitivity to the unity and stability of the Ijaw nation.
