Nigeria’s mattresses and polyurethane foam products, Mouka Ltd, has joined the global community of sleep health advocates, researchers and healthcare professionals to commemorate World Sleep Day 2026.

The world sleep day is an annual initiative created by the World Sleep Society to raise awareness about the importance of healthy sleep.

Celebrated on Friday, March 13, 2026, this year’s theme, “Sleep Well, Live Better,” highlights the vital role quality sleep plays in maintaining overall health, productivity and wellbeing.

The theme reinforces the growing body of scientific evidence showing that good sleep promotes wellness and resilience, while poor sleep can negatively affect nearly every aspect of the body and mind.

According to the World Sleep Society, sleep is a critical pillar of health, just like nutrition and physical activity. Adequate sleep supports memory and learning, strengthens immune function, and helps the body repair and maintain energy levels.

Conversely, poor sleep health has been linked to serious health concerns such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment and increased susceptibility to infections.

Speaking on the significance of the theme and Mouka’s continued participation in the global campaign, Mouka’s head of marketing, Tolu Olanipekun, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting a healthy sleep culture in Nigeria.

“We have been adding comfort to life since 1959, not only through our high-quality sleep products but also through sustained consumer education on the importance of quality sleep.

The theme ‘Sleep Well, Live Better’ perfectly aligns with our mission to improve the wellbeing of Nigerians by helping them understand that quality sleep is fundamental to a healthy and productive life,” she said.

As part of the activities to mark World Sleep Day 2026, Mouka once again collaborated with key healthcare partners, including the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy and the National Association of Orthopaedic and Manual Therapists, to educate Nigerians about the benefits of healthy sleep habits and proper sleep environments.

Sleep experts note that sleep health is multidimensional and goes beyond simply getting enough hours of sleep.

Key elements include sleep duration, regular sleep schedules, sleep quality, efficiency in falling and staying asleep, alertness during waking hours, and appropriate sleep timing. Paying attention to these dimensions can significantly improve overall health and daily performance.

Senior Brand and Innovation Manager at Mouka, Yemisi Obadina, emphasised the role individuals can play in improving their sleep health.

“Prioritising sleep starts with simple steps such as maintaining a regular sleep schedule, creating a relaxing and comfortable sleep environment, and ensuring at least seven hours of sleep per night for adults.

When people consistently sleep well, they are more focused, healthier and better equipped to manage daily demands,” she said.
