MTN Nigeria says it has remitted N878.7 billion in taxes, levies, and duties to federal and state authorities under its 2025 financial year.

The figure reflects a 15 percent increase from the previous year, as detailed in the company’s released 2025 Sustainability Report.

The statutory remitaces showed an upward trend, increasing from N543.9 billion in 2023 to N764 billion in 2024, a cumulative growth of roughly 62 per cent over two years.

MTN said the surge aligns with its recovery trajectory following previous forex-related challenges, with a reported profit after tax of N1.11 trillion in 2025. Total revenue soared by 54.8 percent to N5.20 trillion, while operating profit rose significantly from N778.2 billion to N2.08 trillion.

The N878.7 billion remitted encompasses various types of taxes, including corporation tax, value-added tax, spectrum fees, import duties, NCC levies, and contributions under the Rural and Urban Terrestrial Infrastructure (RUTI) tax credit scheme.

Citing the 2025 report, MTN said “this initiative, grounded in MTN Nigeria’s commitment to public-private partnerships, demonstrates the company’s proactive approach to infrastructure development.

“Additionally, MTN has shown strong support for infrastructure enhancement through schemes like the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme, to which it contributed N202.8 billion for the reconstruction of the 110-kilometre Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

“In 2025, the RUTI scheme reached an impressive 50 percent completion, receiving approval for an extra N23 billion tax credit to further expand fibre and telecommunications infrastructure in underserved communities. This model effectively promotes infrastructure growth without necessitating direct public expenditure.”

The report also revealed “MTN’s expanding domestic economic influence, with 62 per cent of its procurement spending directed toward Nigerian suppliers in 2025, up from 59.6 per cent the previous year. This approach aligns well with the federal government’s local-content objectives and enhances sectors such as civil construction, logistics, software services, and power infrastructure.

“MTN’s operational footprint continues to grow, boasting 2,087 active base stations across the nation, with active mobile subscribers reaching 85.4 million by the third quarter of 2025. The number of active data users also rose to 51.1 million, driven by a smartphone penetration rate of 65.1 per cent.

“In a strategic move to bolster its service quality, MTN Nigeria renewed its 800MHz spectrum licence for another decade, extending to December 2034, and secured regulatory approval to lease additional spectrum from T2 Mobile, formerly known as 9Mobile, across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
