An Islamic scholar, Abdullahi Abu Saiyan gave the advice at the inauguration lecture on Marriage Counselling which took place at Federation of Muslims Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) premises in Minna, the Niger State capital.

He admonished Muslim couples to exhibit good conduct by following the injunctions of the Qur’an and Hadith in order to live a life that would lead them to paradise.

Abu Saiyan attributed the problems in marriages to lack of proper understanding of what Islam teaches about marriage.

He therefore stressed the need for Marriage Counseling services as a foundation for a lasting and healthy marriage in Islam, adding that the benefits of seeking counseling before marriage include promotion of communication, understanding, and conflict-resolution skills.

He said it helps couples explore and resolve areas of tension, encouraging them to make more informed and harmonious decisions.

According to the cleric, conventionally, counselling can help to illustrate the transformative power of healthy relationships and management and encourages individuals to approach marriage with an increased sense of self-awareness and interactive skills.

In her remarks at the lecture, the Amirah FOMWAN Niger State chapter, Hajiya Kulu Abdullahi, also called on couples to understand what marriage is all about and that better understanding comes with the knowledge of what the Qu’ran and Hadith teach about marriage.
