The suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has encouraged residents of the State to keep up hope amid the ongoing political crisis, assuring them that it will ultimately make them stronger, not weaker.

Fubara stated this while hosting Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), at his private residence in Port Harcourt, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Speaking to the delegation, Fubara encouraged them and his supporters to remain steadfast and trust in God’s plan.

“This season represents love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made great sacrifices through your prayers.

“As Christians, we believe everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe this situation is guiding us toward a greater one,” he told his guests.

He, however, admitted that the crisis may be disheartening but suggested it could be guided by higher forces.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to justice and equality, emphasising his vision for a society free from oppression.

He assured Muslims that their pending requests would be considered once the political situation improves and emphasised the importance of patience by referencing the biblical story of Noah, stating, “If God could be patient with Noah, allowing even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience is crucial in our struggle.”

“No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger,” he added.

He warned against those inciting violence through provocative acts, urging his supporters and Rivers people to reject elements seeking to destabilise the state.

“Their goal is to create problems and deny people their livelihoods.

“We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure Rivers remains a model for others in Nigeria.”

Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah in Rivers State, conveyed strong support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, promising him their prayers and solidarity during the current political turmoil.

Uhor emphasised that most Muslims in Rivers State were with Fubara due to his dedication to inclusive governance.

He said unlike the previous administration, which declared Rivers a 100% Christian state, he praised Fubara for acknowledging the state’s Christian majority while fostering religious inclusivity.

He encouraged the governor to remain resolute, emphasising that challenges like these are consistent with Islamic teachings, which teach that believers are tested through wealth, power, and authority.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to reevaluate the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s complete authority, stating that the governor has managed to lead effectively in spite of the political challenges.
