A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has commended the governor of Adamawa State, Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri, for creating new chiefdoms and emirates in the state, including Huba.

Mustapha, who made the commendation at the first anniversary of the creation of the Huba Chiefdom yesterday, said the governor’s action demonstrated that at best, leaders must listen to their people’s yearnings.

According to the former SGF, the historical roots of the Huba people are deep and firmly anchored within the socio-cultural landscape of present-day Adamawa State.

“Long before colonial administrative realignments altered traditional governance structures across the region, Huba society operated an organised system of authority, layered, cohesive and supported by established institutions of leadership and community coordination.

“Historical accounts and oral traditions alike point to a people whose political and administrative formations were structured and resilient. While subsequent colonial interventions disrupted that institutional trajectory, they did not extinguish its legitimacy in the consciousness of the people,” he said.

Mustapha noted that the restoration and creation of the chiefdom must be understood not only as the creation of something new, but as the formal recognition of a heritage whose memory and identity endured across generations.

He said, “It is within this historical continuum that we must situate the actions of His Excellency, the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, whose leadership and statesmanship brought this aspiration to fruition.

“In undertaking a far-reaching review of traditional institutions across the state, and in approving the creation of new chiefdoms and emirates, including Huba, His Excellency demonstrated that governance, at its best, listens to the yearnings of the people and responds through lawful, consultative, and institution-strengthening processes.

“Your Excellency, what you did was not merely to create a chiefdom; you restored institutional dignity and corrected a long historical imbalance. For this, we would like to place on record our profound appreciation and gratitude

“Permit me at this juncture to pay special tribute to the traditional head of the Huba people, His Royal Majesty, Tol Huba Dr. Alheri Bulus Nyako. Since his appointment and coronation, His Royal Majesty has provided calm, steady, and unifying leadership at a defining moment in the life of the chiefdom.

“The task of giving structure to a newly restored traditional institution is neither ceremonial nor symbolic; it demands wisdom, inclusiveness, and institutional foresight. I wish to commend His Royal Majesty for the dignity with which he has carried this responsibility, and for the stabilising influence he continues to provide within the Chiefdom and the wider traditional council framework of the state,” he added

Mustapha also stated that the unveiling of the Hong Local Government Development Plan stood out as a defining highlight, signaling a forward-looking commitment to structured growth, infrastructure expansion, and community advancement.

“Alongside this, the cultural exhibitions, traditional processions, and community engagements woven into the celebration reflect the richness of Huba heritage. The honour conferred on His Excellency as Midala Huba, as well as the thanksgiving observances that bring people together in collective gratitude, underscore a celebration that is historical in memory, developmental in outlook, and unifying in spirit.

“Distinguished guests, anniversaries are also thresholds. They ask not only what has been achieved, but what must now be built. The creation of the Chiefdom has laid the institutional foundation; the responsibility before us is to consolidate unity, strengthen governance structures, mobilise community capital, and position the traditional institution as a constructive partner in the broader development trajectory of Adamawa state.

“I have every confidence that under the stewardship of His Royal Majesty, supported by district leadership, stakeholders, and the sons and daughters of Huba land at home and in the diaspora, this Chiefdom will grow in stature, relevance, and developmental impact.

“As Chairman of this occasion, and as one whose roots are firmly tied to this heritage, it is both an honour and a deeply satisfying moment to witness this milestone within our lifetime.

“Let me once again appreciate His Excellency the Governor, the Royal Fathers, members of the Traditional Councils, political and community leaders, and all guests whose presence underscores the significance of this historic anniversary.

“As we celebrate today, we must remain mindful that institutions endure not merely because they are created, but because they are nurtured, through unity of purpose, discipline of leadership, and fidelity to the collective good,” he added.
