Mutfwang, Vice Chancellor Mourn 8 Varsity Students

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed shock over the tragic loss of eight students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), including the president of the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS).

They were involved in a fatal road accident in the early hours of yesterday.

Mutfwang, in a condolence message signed by his director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr  Gyang Bere, described the passing of the young, vibrant, and promising students as a colossal loss to their families, the University of Jos, the wider student community, Plateau State, and the nation at large.

He said the news was devastating and that this painful tragedy profoundly grieves the government.

He instructed the commissioner for Youth and Sports and the special adviser on Youth Mobilisation to liaise with the affected families, student bodies and the university in preparations for their burial.

On behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang extended his deepest condolences to the families of the departed students, the University of Jos community, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, and the entire Plateau student constituency.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya and his management team have condoled with the family of the eight UNIJOS students in a fatal accident along Zaria Road stadium in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Thursday morning.

According to the VC, the accident involved 11 persons, and that, eight students of the university and the driver instantly died, while two are currently in Jankwano Hospital in Jos, with one being prepared for surgery”.
