MUTLA Assures On Propagation Of Tiv Heritage, Language

The Mzough U Tiv Lagos (MUTLA), a non-political socio-cultural association, has pledged to propagate the Tiv language to preserve heritage and tradition. The group’s primary objective is to foster love, unity,tage, culture and tradition, saying the primary objective of the group is to foster love, unity and development amongst the Tiv and other ethnic communities in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2024 Tiv Cultural Day Festival in Lagos, the Begha U Tiv, Orchivirigh, Prof Ortese Iorzua James Ayatse, lauded the Oba Of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu for his solidarity with the Tiv people and upholding the traditional institution in Lagos.

He extolled the Oba of Lagos for preserving traditional institutions while recognising with other tribes and ethnic groups the need to foster peace and harmony among people from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Ayatse emphasised that unity of purpose will strengthen the bond of the Tiv nation and enjoined the Tiv people to seek unity and peace amongst the other ethnic groups that make up the nation at all times.

He stated, “The future of our children and the generations that will follow, we are their stewards of a rich cultural heritage, and we must ensure that it thrives and flourishes.”

In his remark, Mdzough U Tiv Lagos(MUTLA), President Engr Theophilus Ukaa stressed the importance of speaking, learning and preserving the local language.

Hence, there is a critical effort to put in place a structure to keep the Tiv language well-perceived and passed on to the youth so that they feel linked to forebearers through the language.

Dwelling on the visit of the Tor Tiv to Lagos, Mdzough U Tiv, Lagos Publicity Secretary. Engr John Terfa Mka said, “The visit of our paramount ruler shows the importance placed on the need for a cohesive, unified field force amongst the Tiv people in Lagos as our strength lies in our unity, which aligns with this year’s theme, Mzdough Katagha.’’
