The Nasarawa State government has said the N16 billion Lafia flyover and underpass recently commissioned by President Bola Tinubu is intact.
The clarification came amid social media reports that the flyover, renamed after the president, had collapsed about three weeks after commissioning.
Images of a collapsed bridge had gone viral on social media platforms including X, Facebook and Instagram.
The post drew widespread outrage among citizens, especially from outside the state.
However, the managing director and chief executive officer of Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB), Engr. Ahmed Wada Yahaya, told journalists in Lafia yesterday that the misinformation was a mischief taken too far.
Engr. Yahaya who took journalists on an assessment tour of the facility said the flyover was a product of cutting-edge engineering techniques to ensure durability, efficiency and safety, adding that the project met international standards of engineering quality.
“This is one of the many legacy projects of Governor Abdullahi Sule and we are proud to tell you that it was constructed by a very competent and prominent construction firm, and it has complied with all the engineering standards.
“Two days ago, the social media was bombarded with speculations that it had collapsed; you have seen it yourself as the combined edifice which consists of an underpass and overpass that is a flyover. These two circulars are interchanges.
“Everything is stable, vehicles are flying, people are moving around doing their businesses, and this does not in any way resemble the one that has been speculated on social media. That is the work of mischief makers who want to blackmail the government of Abdullahi Sule and Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
