The chairman of the Aba Power Ltd (APL), Prof. Barth Nnaji, has expressed concerns about future sustenance of the company’s operations given poor response of customers in bill settlement.

Only less than six months after it commenced electricity distribution in the commercial city of Aba, in Abia State, poor response to debt payment is becoming a serious and insidious issue, such that, residents and commercial business operators are owing the firm about N4.2 billion for electricity supplied.

The omnipresent attitude of inability to pay bills is now a major challenge to the APL which is the distribution arm of Geometric Power Ltd, an independent electricity generating company based at Aba, which establishment was meant to bring hope for reliable power supply to the town.

Nnaji made the disclosure of the huge debt during a town-hall meeting between APL and Landlords Protection and Development Association (ALPADA).

He expressed worries that barely six months after it took over electricity distribution in Aba, his company is owed N4.2 billion by consumers.
