NABTEB Records 81% Pass Rate In 2026 NBC/NTC Exams

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has recorded a significant improvement in candidates’ performance in the June/July 2026 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, with 81.24 per cent of candidates obtaining five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

The board also disclosed that 100,069 candidates registered for the examinations, the highest in recent years, reflecting a growing interest in technical and vocational education across the country.

Announcing the release of the results in Benin City on Wednesday, NABTEB registrar and chief executive officer, Dr Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, said 97,867 candidates sat for the examinations, while 79,503 candidates, representing 81.24 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He added that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent, secured five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics.

Dr Mohammed further disclosed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 per cent of those graded, qualified as certified craftsmen, describing the feat as evidence of NABTEB’s commitment to producing skilled manpower for the nation’s economy.

According to him, the 2026 performance surpassed that of the 2025 examination cycle, when only 68.18 per cent of candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 83.28 per cent achieved five credits and above with or without the two core subjects.

“The improvement recorded in the 2026 examination is encouraging and demonstrates the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and the wider education system,” he said.

Mohammed noted that beyond the improved statistics, the NBC and NTC qualifications remain vital to Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, equipping young Nigerians with practical, occupational and entrepreneurial skills required for employment, self-reliance and academic advancement.

He added that the sustained rise in enrolment and improved performance underscored increasing public confidence in technical and business education as a viable pathway to national development.
