The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced specialised aeromedical evacuation training for its Nursing Officers at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Dayton, Ohio.
The training was facilitated through the Office of Security Cooperation at the United States Embassy, Abuja. The ongoing training effort was directly reinforcing NAF counter-terrorism operations, where rapid casualty evacuation and effective in-flight medical care are critical to sustaining operational momentum, safeguarding personnel, and preserving combat effectiveness across active theatres.
According to a post on the verified Facebook page of NAF on Tuesday, the programme delivers specialised, mission-oriented competencies required for efficient aeromedical evacuation within contemporary air power frameworks.
“It encompasses operational planning, safety and contingency protocols, crew resource management, and comprehensive patient care in the air environment.
“Conducted under simulated flight conditions, the training integrates pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight procedures, alongside hands-on use of advanced medical and diagnostic systems, thereby strengthening air-to-ground integration and ensuring seamless medical support to ongoing combat and support missions.
“Two officers have successfully completed the programme and returned, while others are scheduled to undergo the training later in the year. Upon completion, they will be deployed to operational units, where their expertise will directly enhance aeromedical evacuation missions and overall force health protection, improving survivability and mission continuity.
“This initiative reflects the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, underscoring his commitment to the protection and safety of personnel of the Armed Forces engaged in operations, as well as the citizens they are sworn to defend, through deliberate human capacity development and a responsive, mission-ready force.”
