Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna has secured first position among Nigerian universities for its highest level of compliance with the JAMB admission guidelines for the 2024/2025 admission exercise.

The recognition validates the institution’s commitment to a merit-based and standards-driven admissions process.

A statement by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman, Air Cdre Ehimen Ejodame, said the feat demonstrated AFIT’s rising profile as one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, earning top honours at the 5th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NAPTAP-M).

He said the ceremony, organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), was held on 8th July, 2025 at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

He said the award marked an advancement from the 2023/2024 admission cycle, where the institution ranked second.

According to him, in the overall combined ranking for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 admission years, AFIT secured 4th place out of 172 universities, following Ahmadu Bello University, University of Ilorin, and Nile University.

He said this latest milestone affirms AFIT’s unwavering commitment to transparency, merit-based admissions, and excellence in education delivery, which aligns with national guidelines and global best practices.

Reacting to the development, the chief of air staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, commended the Institute’s leadership and staff for sustaining the momentum of academic and administrative excellence.

He described the recognition as “a validation of the Nigerian Air Force’s deliberate and strategic investment in education as a key enabler of air power and national development.”

He added that AFIT’s success story was not accidental. “It is the product of a deliberate approach to training that aligns with the CAS Command Philosophy, which prioritises capacity building, strategic partnerships, and academic excellence.

According to the CAS, “AFIT’s adherence to merit-based admissions reflects the values of discipline, integrity, and professionalism which the Nigerian Air Force seeks to instil across all its institutions.”

“The performance of AFIT at the NAPTAP-M Awards demonstrates our resolve to build a future-ready Air Force anchored on knowledge, innovation, and competence. We will continue to support AFIT in its mission to produce highly skilled graduates, not just for the NAF, but for Nigeria at large,” Air Marshal Abubakar added.

Renowned as Nigeria’s premier aerospace and defence-focused higher institution, AFIT continues to evolve as a world-class centre for innovation, character development, and research-driven education.

Its growing national footprint and academic credibility have positioned it as one of the fastest-rising federal universities in the country.

With this remarkable recognition by JAMB, AFIT is poised to play an even more prominent role in shaping Nigeria’s future workforce through quality education, technological innovation, and strategic relevance.
