NANS Condemns Ban On Student Union Activities In Kaduna

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Kaduna State, has condemned the recent decision by the management of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria to ban all activities of the Student Union Government (SUG).

A statement issued by the chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Kaduna State, Bilyaminu Muhammad Thabit, described the decision as deeply disturbing, undemocratic, and inconsistent with the ideals of higher education, which were founded on leadership development, constructive dialogue, and active student participation in institutional affairs.

The statement called on the management of NILEST to immediately rescind the decision in the interest of peace, justice, and the preservation of institutional integrity.

The statement further urged relevant stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Education, educational regulatory agencies, and other concerned authorities, to intervene without delay to safeguard the rights and interests of students.

“The Student Union Government remains a legitimate and recognized body established to represent the interests and welfare of students. Any attempt to silence or undermine this institution amounts to a direct assault on the principles of representation, freedom of association, and democratic engagement within our campuses” the statement said.

Efforts to speak with the officials of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) were not successful.
