NAPTIP Rescues Mother Of 2 Sold Into Slavery For $4,000

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a woman (name withheld) from slavery in Baghdad, Iraq.

The mother of two was said to have been sold into slavery for $,4000 .

She was, however, rescued by NAPTIP operatives from the national headquarters of the agency  in conjunction with the Ekiti State Liaison Office in Ilupeju-Ekiti, Oye local government area of the state.

The director-general of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, who spoke to newsmen on the matter noted that the woman whose name was given in confidence was engaged by a Nigerian agent (in confidence) to work in Baghdad Iraq, unknown to her that she has been sold for $4,000 to an alleged slave master.

The NAPTIP boss who spoke through the head of NAPTIP Ekiti Liaison Office, Oladimeji Samson said the victim’s family contacted NAPTIP for the situation but there are no contacts to reach out to the victim.

“We couldn’t reach the Lady but through the help of a Non -Governmental Organization (NGO), Hope Heaven Foundation, Lagos, they made this rescue mission a success but investigation is ongoing to track all suspects”.

Sampson added that the NAPTIP director-general is passionate about eradicating the menace of human trafficking and modern slavery.

He solicited for more resources to champion the cause.

The victim who revealed that she has two children said she resides in Ekiti; and was interested in working abroad but her agents sold her into slavery.
