Director General of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, has tasked parents and youths on the need to resist activities of promoters of human trafficking and organ harvesting across the country.
Bello gave the charge in Abuja during the presentation of over 70 football jerseys to F.C Wuzgak, Masaka, Nasarawa State, in commemoration of the 2025 Children’s Day organised by Blue North Initiative (BNI).
The NAPTIP director general who was represented by deputy director, counseling and rehabilitation department, Ogo Adinde, warned against hiding any issue with third party or strangers, and urged youths to confide in their teachers, parents and counselors.
She said: “I want to tell you one thing, that this human trafficking you are hearing, it looks very simple, it is a whole lot of problem. Because it’s one crime that takes the dignity of man away.”
And this human trafficking is not just trafficking children to abroad. We have what we call internal trafficking. A lot of men and women in Nigeria here are practicing internal trafficking.
“Where they bring children from states, local communities to urban places. For example, bringing children from maybe Enugu or Kano or Nasarawa to Abuja and deceiving them that they are going to school or going to work. They will put them in different hotels. And these young children will be there. Doing what?” Doing prostitution, which is against their will, because every child wants to go to school. Every child wants to go to learn work. Either you go to school or you go to learn a skill. So they will deceive you, that madam, that your aunt, your uncle. Because this human trafficking is being practiced by even people who don’t know you very well or your friends. Some of your friends will come, hey, don’t worry, this village you are, it’s not good for you, let’s go. I have a very big Oga in Abuja, he will do you this, he will do you that.”
