The Nigerian Association of Retired People (NARP50PLUS) in partnership with the Ikoyi Club Squash section, is set to stage the first-ever Veteran and Super Veteran Squash Tournament which starts today in Lagos.
The Ikoyi Club 1938 is the venue of the competition which promises to showcase the skills and passion of squash enthusiasts aged 50 and above.
NARP50PLUS is a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering individuals aged 50 and over by facilitating their active participation in socio-economic activities.
Executive Trustee of NARP50PLUS, Bunmi Sodade, said through initiatives like this tournament, the retirees’ body strives to create a platform for active living and foster a sense of community among its members.
“We are excited to host the Veteran Squash Tournament and provide a stage for our veteran squash enthusiasts to showcase their skills.
“We believe that active aging is crucial for maintaining physical and mental well-being, fostering social connections, and challenging ageism. This tournament not only celebrates the sport of squash but also honors the dedication and passion of our veteran players who continue to inspire us all.”
Veteran players aged 50-60 and super veteran players aged 61-70 will compete in both male and female categories for a period of exhilarating competition and meaningful social interaction.
The Veteran Squash Tournament is a celebration of the sport and a tribute to its experienced players.
In addition to the thrilling matches, the tournament will also feature a range of social events and activities throughout the week.
Participants and spectators will have the opportunity to network, forge lasting relationships, and immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the sport.
Executive Trustee, Sodade, showered praises on those who supported the squash tournament.
“It is the first edition and it is made possible through the support of Multipro Consumer Products Limited (Indomie noodles), Alaro City, Radix Asset Management Company Limited, and Salam Life Insurance Nigeria Limited and Ikoyi Club Squash Section Executive and coaches,” Sodade said.
