Nasarawa State Waste Management and Sanitation Authority (NASWAMSA) has denied abandoning a refuse dump in New Nyanya, Karu local government area of the state.
The agency said the road leading to the site was in bad shape which they had to refill and after work commenced, one of the equipment had mechanical fault.
It reacted to reports that the agency had abandoned the dumpsite.
In a statement issued by NASWAMSA information and public relations officer, Comrade Abdulmalik Abubakar, he said the agency and management had been winning awards based on its performance, adding that they can’t abandon the dump site.
“Unfortunately, the road leading to the dump site which had a lot of potholes was filled up, and evacuation commenced.
“While on the evacuation exercise, the payloader developed a major mechanical fault and had to take time before it was fixed.
“Sequel to the restored order of the payloader, the Agency has continued with the evacuation exercise of all un-approved dumped sites and very soon will get back to the alleged dump site,” he said.
