All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Nasarawa State have resolved to adopt consensus mode in the selection of party officials at the ward, local government and state levels.

The decision was reached during an expanded stakeholders meeting held in Lafia, the state capital.

The party had allowed for wider participation in its decision making process following a motion to the effect by the legal adviser.

After careful deliberation by participants at the meeting and in line with the constitution of the party, the state chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello called on the member representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency, Hon. Hassan Abubakar Nalaraba, a member of the state executive council to move a motion for the adoption of consensus as the mode of selection of officials of the party during the coming congresses.

“I rise to move the motion that this expanded state executive council resolved to adopt as a preferred and recommended mode of selection of party officials at the ward, local government and state levels congresses including but not limited to ward, local government, state and national levels where such consensus is transparently and voluntarily achieved by all relevant stakeholders. I so move ” Hon. Nalaraba noted.

The Deputy National Secretary of the party, Professor Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN) thereafter seconded the motion, while the first civilian governor of the state and former APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu took the gavel to take the voice votes of participants which unanimously adopted the consensus arrangement.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, said the meeting was convened for participants to interact and for the state executive council of the party to brief them on the transformations so far recorded, especially since the emergence of the new leadership at the national level.

Dr. Bello said the APC has continued to witness mass acceptance leading to the influx of defectors by eminent Nigerians.

In his intervention, Governor Sule appreciated stakeholders for adopting consensus arrangement for the selection of officials of the party.

According to him, the decision will further strengthen the peace being enjoyed in the party.

” By adopting the consensus mode of selection, you have reduced all the challenges we are likely going to face. It means that the election of our congresses is all going to be conducted by consensus, which, in essence, means by you. You are going to take the decisions and bring it back to us,” he said.
