All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Nasarawa State has called on members to refrain from actions capable of further polarising the party ahead of next general elections.

The secretary of the party in the state, Yairus Dagusa, who handed the warning in Lafia, said the leadership had noticed with dismay unwarranted mudslinging by misguided elements within the fold.
He said such action, coming at the time the leadership is working relentlessly to unite aggrieved former members and strengthen the party mechanism ahead of future elections, could bring it to public ridicule and therefore unacceptable.

“Such uncanny commentaries coming from within the party is absolutely unhealthy; needless and capable of further dividing us especially at this crucial point where the unity and progress of the party cannot be negotiated for any personal interest or convergence of groups advancement,” he stated.

He specifically frowned at the recent attacks on the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Aliyu Bello on social media by “sponsored agents” of “elements within the party”, who tried to capitalised on the agelong friendship between the chairman and the Senator representing Nasarawa West senatorial district, Mr. Aliyu Wadada to cause disaffection in the fold.

He said the relationship between the two figures spanned some 44 years, noting that using party differences to stir discontent to achieve parochial political interest is treacherous.

He also faulted the insinuations that Aliyu Bello emerged as chairman of the party through the backdoor, explaining that his emergence followed a democratic process dully supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and in tandem with the party’s constitution.

He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party also affirmed and approved the position of Alhaji Bello as the state chairman of the party in the state.

“It is therefore sheer mischief for anyone to demand that Hon. Aliyu Bello should resign as the State Chairman of the party, ignorantly claiming that he was not democratically elected,” he stated.

He said, “at this juncture, we consider it appropriate to call on our teeming members, supporters and admirers to be wary of the antics of these elements. As members of the APC family we should ensure that we scrutinize any information about the party which is spreading in the public domain, to avoid being gullible.

“We should disregard any falsehood propagated by questionable people parading as members of the APC in Nasarawa State. Our amiable and hardworking Governor, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has pledged to handover the baton of the State leadership to only an APC candidate, come 2027, even if the person is his enemy,” he said.
