The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has condemned the rising spate of insecurity across the state and urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to take decisive action to end the menace.
The Assembly particularly expressed worries over incessant killings and kidnappings, declaring that the state is no longer safe for citizens to carry out their daily duties.
LEADERSHIP reports that the minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba (PDP, Obi 2), raised the motion on the state-of-the-state under matters of public importance during the plenary.
He said that on Monday, Nov.10, 2025, two people from his constituency were killed on their way to the Gidan Rai community.
“Again, the same week, on Friday, another two people were killed in Gidan Rai.
“As lawmakers, we were elected to speak for our people, as it is the duty of every government to protect lives and properties,” he said.
In their various interventions in support of the motion, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, Hon. Jacob Ajegena Kudu and Hon. Esson Mairiga all lamented on the incessant killings in their respective constituencies, while urging the state government to collaborate with the security agencies in dealing with the situation.
In his intervention on the motion, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D, appreciated Hon. Zhekab for bringing the matter and other lawmakers for their contributions on the issue.
The speaker, while commending Gov. Abdullahi Sule for tackling security challenges in the State, urged him to do more to end the growing cases of killings in the State.
He said, “The resolution of the House is to the effect that we urge the State Government to call the State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the killings of people in Obi, Doma, Nassarawa Eggon, Lafia, Keana and other constituencies in the State.
“The public is expected to remain vigilant of security agencies regarding criminals’ movements and hideouts.
“The village heads across the state are to identify their people and visitors in the interest of peace and the safety of their people”.
