Mr Solomon Akwashiki, the lawmaker representing Lafia Central Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to impactful representation and more democratic dividends to alleviate his constituents’ plight.

Akwashiki stated this when the Agyaragu Community in Lafia conferred on him the chieftaincy title of “Danmasani” (knowledgeable person) on Tuesday.

The lawmaker highlighted some of his interventions in the constituency, including sinking boreholes, repairing roads, providing students with free Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms, and empowering youth through employment.

“I have done my best to improve people’s living standards through various policies and programmes.

“I want to assure you, by God’s grace, of my commitment to do more to improve your standard of living,” he said.

He said that the honour bestowed on him by the traditional ruler was a clear demonstration that his constituents were feeling his leadership.

“It means the infrastructure I have provided and the bill I am sponsoring are impactful; it means the motion I am moving in the chamber is yielding the required results”, Akwashiki said.

He promised to use his position to provide more democratic dividends and alleviate the plights of his constituents. “Even when the crowns were not there, I was performing. Now that I am appreciated, you should expect more boreholes, rehabilitation of roads, developmental programmes and policies that will justify the essence of governance.

“I am committed to bringing government closer to my people and will not relent; I know why I was elected. I am just two years in office and have another two years to go. You will see more development,” he added.

Akwashiki solicited the support of all and sundry to enable him to succeed.

Earlier, Mr Saleh Angulu, the Village Head of the Agyaragu community, Lafia, said the traditional title bestowed on Akwashiki was to appreciate him for bringing the government closer to the people in the area of infrastructure and sponsoring bills and motions that had an impact on the people.

The village head urged the lawmaker to continue his performance by providing more dividends of democracy to his constituents.

He also assured Akwashiki of their prayers and support to enable him to succeed.
