He explained that the current chairmen and councillors were elected on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, and were inaugurated on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, for a three-year tenure that would end on Oct. 7.

He said the commission has been mandated by relevant law to commence preparation for election one year before the expiration of the tenure of the officials.

Wandai said that political parties were expected to conduct their primaries from Wednesday, Jan. 3, to Saturday, Feb. 24, to select their candidates for the election.
