NASENI Expands Economic Opportunities, Empowers 1,000 Lagos Residents through NSEP

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to Lagos State, empowering 1,000 beneficiaries with clean energy solutions, livelihood support and practical skills training as part of efforts to deploy technology that directly improves the lives and economic opportunities for Nigerians.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by NASENI’s Director of Information Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, the Lagos edition of the programme, held on Friday, 28th August 2026 at the LTV Blue Roof, Ikeja, featured the distribution of 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 NASENI Home Solar Solutions and NASENI Support Packs, as well as practical skills training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and Electrical Maintenance.

The intervention is part of NASENI’s drive to take practical science, technology and engineering solutions beyond laboratories and factories into Nigerian homes, businesses and communities, the statement said.

Speaking at the event, the executive vice chairman/chief executive officer of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the Lagos programme came just a day after the Agency delivered a similar intervention in Ohafia, Abia State, and demonstrated NASENI’s determination to reach Nigerians across different parts of the country.

“Yesterday, we were in Ohafia, Abia State, delivering the same message through action.

Today, we are here in Lagos. For us at NASENI, science, technology and engineering must ultimately improve lives. Innovation only becomes meaningful when it solves real problems for real people,” Halilu said.

He explained that the NASENI Power Stoves are designed to provide cleaner, more efficient cooking alternatives, helping households reduce their dependence on traditional cooking methods while contributing to Nigeria’s transition towards cleaner energy.

According to him, the NASENI Home Solar Solutions are also designed to provide households and small businesses with reliable renewable energy options that can extend productive hours and support economic activities.

The EVC said the Lagos edition was deliberately designed to go beyond product distribution by incorporating practical, market-relevant skills development in POP installation and Electrical Maintenance.

“These are practical skills with immediate economic value. The objective is not simply to train people, but to give them skills they can convert into services, businesses and sustainable sources of income.

“We want beneficiaries to move from learning to earning, and from receiving support to becoming productive economic participants,” he said.

Halilu urged beneficiaries to regard the intervention as an investment in their productive capacity and make effective use of both the products and skills provided.

“Our real measure of success is what happens after today. Are households benefiting? Are people reducing their energy challenges? Are those trained earning from their new skills? Are small businesses being created or expanded? Those are the outcomes that matter to us,” he said.

Representing the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Fuad Kayode Laguda, Member representing Surulere I Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, commended NASENI for bringing the programme to Lagos State.

Laguda described the combination of practical skills development and empowerment products as an important demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to translating policies and programmes into tangible opportunities for Nigerians.

He called for the programme’s expansion to reach more communities and beneficiaries across Lagos State.

Also speaking, the chairman, Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, represented by Hon. Akeem Dauda, Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, commended NASENI for the intervention, particularly its focus on clean energy, skills development and sustainable livelihoods.

Hon. Akeem Dauda also appreciated NASENI for bringing the programme to Lagos and urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the opportunities provided.

Similarly, the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, represented by Hon. Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, described the programme as a practical demonstration of government interventions reaching citizens.

Through NSEP, NASENI is providing Nigerians with practical technologies, relevant skills, and livelihood support, while demonstrating how science, technology, and engineering can translate into jobs, enterprise, cleaner energy, improved productivity, and better livelihoods, the statement said.
